The hour is 23:58 and we’re all at the Roomer HQ (aka ‘the Roomer Hotel’) in Tel-Aviv.
I guess that this is the time of our lives.
We’re sitting here in our office – my co-founder Ben is sitting in front of me, he’s currently writing the FAQ’s for questions like “how do I book a room?”, while on the other room Adi, our co-founder and CTO is sitting with Vitali and Lior to code more functions, scripts and features (void).
It’s been like that for months now, and it’s fuck*n amazing.
I wouldn’t do it any different – and I guess that if were to re-live this experience, it could never catch up to what it has become.
Let’s go one year back.
We are students at the Zell Entrepeneurship Progam at the IDC, and we have an idea for a peer-to-peer marketplace for hotel rooms.
“What would the hotels say?”, “How would you get users?”, “Why wouldn’t Expedia do it?” – those were all FAQ’s that Ben and I finished writing the answers for, but in that time, while we keep narrowing our answers and finding solutions for different challenges, our vision grew bigger.
We knew that travel is supposed to be fun and we want to inspire sponatenous travelers and help – as much as we can – to travelers in distress. There are many ways to do that, and we believe that Roomer’s marketplace – which is launching this Sunday – is one of the best ways to do that.
For the first time in history, you’ll actually do good by buying a room – it’s not like an OTA because when you book in an OTA or in a hotel you just buy an asset. In Roomer, in addition to getting the best price and the best location – you are actually helping someone else, and this Karma is a great value that we’re very proud to bring along with our launch.
On top of everything, we have the best team with the best people that we could have ever found, and we could have never done it the same without it, and we wouldn’t want it to be any different.
So this is for conclusion of the last year and 3 months –
We learned a lot
We made many mistakes
We had many great, amazing moments
We sat basically everywhere we could – from our little class in the IDC to my saloon in Hertzliya to Ben’s place in Tel Aviv to the Shoe-box (yellow) office we had and until now, and we kept having fun in each and every one of them.
We learned that with very little money and a lot of passion you can build everything.
We learned to value that good people are the best thing you could wish for.
And we have a lot more to learn.
The hour is 00:31. Time to go home?
We love you very much,
